Small Cylindrical Jar [Owens-Illinois]

I found this small jar embedded in the sand along the edge of the Kansas River.

The embossments on base show: A-S at the top, with Owens-Illinois Glass Co. logo in the middle--the diamond IO mark, the number 12 to the left, 6. to the right, and 2. at the bottom.

Based on the trademark alone, we know that this jar was manufactured before 1954 (when Owens-Illinois changed their trademark to the letter 'I' inside an oval).  The number 6 followed by a period indicates that the jar was made in the year 1946.

The number 12 to the left of the diamond IO mark indicates the plant in Gas City, Indiana that made this particular jar.

Honestly, if I were to hazard a guess as to what this jar was made for, I'd say it was made to hold either batteries or suppositories.  The jar itself looks very similar to the suppository jars (specifically the "Tall Round" with threads) that Owens-Illinois offered in their 1926 catalog:
